Quest Diagnostics data breach affects 34k individuals

An app on Quest Dianostics' network, MyQuest by Care360, was the target of a successful "unauthorized third-party intrusion", affecting the Protected Health Information (PHI) of around 34,000 people, the company said in a press release.

Quest Diagnostics said an "unauthorized third party" accessed the "MyQuest by Care360" internet application on November 26.

Digital intruders stole personal and medical information of customers-including names, dates of birth, lab results, and, in some cases, telephone numbers-Quest said in a notice posted its website.

There are three Quest Diagnostics locations in Colorado Springs. There is no indication that individuals' information has been misused in any way.

The stolen data did not include Social Security or credit card numbers or any other insurance or financial information.

Affected individuals were notified by mail and a toll-free phone number, 800-320-9970, has been established to allow people to call in with questions about the incident.

The company said it is taking steps to prevent similar incidents, and is working with a cybersecurity firm to assist in the investigation.
