India were 256-3 at tea on day three of the fifth and final cricket Test against England here today.

However, the opener was unfortunate as he got out just one run short of his maiden double hundred in the last hour of the day.

Nair recorded his maiden Test fifty in just his third match to play the flawless sheet anchor role as Rahul piloted the Indian innings till his departure.

India's 200 came up in the 54th over as Rahul and Kohli added 30 runs for the third wicket.

At the close of the day's play, Karun Nair was batting on 71 with Murali Vijay (17 batting) at the other end.

A 152-run opening partnership between KL Rahul and Parthiv Patel led India's response to England's 477 in excellent batting conditions at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.

India have already won the series, thanks to emphatic victories in Visakhapatnam, Mohali and Mumbai.

Rahul, who registered his second half-century in his young Test career, had eight fours and two sixes.

"It's his game sense, he nearly knows what's going to happen before it happens", is another previously uttered Bayliss-ism, which two balls into Dawson's innings did not appear to be the case when he was clonked on the helmet by a bouncer from Ishant Sharma that was slightly less welcoming to the Test club, you would hope, than the Observer correspondent had been.

England need early wickets to re-assert their chances of a consolation win to end their tour of India.

It was spinner Moeen Ali, who finally broke the stand when he had Parthiv caught by Jos Butler at cover after the wicket-keeper batsman tried to repeat a shot which had earned him a boundary earlier in the over.

England's innings ended 45 minutes into the evening session as India were firm in their reply with 60 for no loss at stumps. Patel struck seven fours during his 112-ball stay at the crease.

Rahul was particularly harsh on debutant Liam Dawson, twice stepping out against the left-arm spinner to hit him for sixes in the morning session.

Dawson remained unbeaten too, after Stuart Broad was short of his ground sent back for a possible third to fine-leg and then Jake Ball was bowled aiming a big hit at Amit Mishra.

The tourists took the second new ball in the 85th over of the innings but Rahul and Nair made sure that India continued to mount the runs.

It was Patel's highest Test score, exceeding the 69 runs he scored against Pakistan in Rawalpindi in 2004.

Succop's winning FG gives Titans 17-16 win over former team
The Titans win, coupled with the Texans' late win against the Jaguars, means the two teams are tied for the AFC South lead at 8-6. After Hill's TD run, Smith scored on a 10-yard run near the end of the first quarter and gave Kansas City an early 14-0 lead.
