The Justice Department responded to O'Neil saying that the question of what privileged conversations Yates could discuss was ultimately up to the White House. Devin Nunes, R-Calif., announced that his committee, which has been investigating Russian meddling in last year's presidential election, would no longer hear planned testimony this week from Yates, former CIA Director John Brennan or former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper. "If it's not originating in the White House, it's not our fight, it's their fight".

"I hope she testifies".

"Wouldn't have been the way I would've done things, but I don't know whether that means he has to recuse himself", Christie said on Good Morning America Wednesday. So the inquiry technically continues to go forward, but now with partisan overtones. "To suggest in any way, shape or form that we stood in the way of that is 100 percent false".

Nunes raised eyebrows when he held an unexpected press conference on March 22 and then briefed the president - before making members of his committee aware - that information about Trump's transition team, and possibly the president himself, had been "incidentally collected" after the election in November.

China has launched a charm offensive with the European Union since Trump took office, shifting its stance on trade negotiations and signaling closer cooperation on a range of other issues, European diplomats say.

Nunes would not name the source of the information, nor would he disclose who invited him on the White House grounds for the meeting.

"If you become a White House whisperer, you are not independent", she said on CNN.

The Post cited letters from Yates' attorneys to the Justice Department.

O'Neil declined to comment Tuesday, and a Justice Department spokeswoman did not return a message seeking comment. The president owns those privileges.

Mike Epps sorry for dancing with kangaroo on Detroit stage
Footage from a fan in the crowd showed Mike Epps bring out the animal on a leash during his gig in Detroit on Friday night. The 'roo was famous well before the incident and recently, Stacks was spotted walking the kangaroo on a leash in Detroit.

The embattled House committee is conducting one of three probes into the election campaign, its aftermath and potential contacts between Trump officials and Russians. "She need not obtain separate consent from the Department", a Justice Department official wrote to O'Neil on Friday.

"There is no letter from the White House because Yates attorney's letter clearly states a non-response will be seen as the White House not asserting executive privilege", the official said.

Schiff says Yates had sought permission to testify from the White House. Mark Warner, D-Va., left, speaks at the Senate Intelligence Committee hearing on Capitol Hill in Washington, Thursday, March.

The White House's invitation letter came amid a quickly rising storm over Rep. Devin Nunes, who heads the House intelligence committee.

Schiff said he only wanted Comey to testify if it was not behind closed doors. "The only person the committee has spoken to about her appearing before the committee has been her lawyer". "We have no problem with her testifying".

Separately, The Washington Post reported on Tuesday that the Trump administration told Yates that what she might have said publicly violated the executive branch's privilege about internal communications.

The wonkiest soap opera in Washington served up yet more of its trademark plot twists on Tuesday as the House Intelligence Committee's investigation into Russian Federation detoured even further into partisan bickering. Shortly afterward, Nunes announced that Trump associates' communications had been were caught up in "incidental" surveillance, a revelation President Trump used to defend his unproven claim that his predecessor tapped the phones at Trump Tower.

But Nunes can not say whether Trump or any of the president's associates personally participated in the communications that were intercepted, meaning it's possible that the information he's citing merely refers to foreign officials talking about Trump transition team members.

McCain, an Arizona conservative and critic of President Donald Trump, said Nunes must divulge the identity of the source to rule out political influence.
