Rare baby giraffe born at England zoo

The Memphis Zoo also welcomed a baby giraffe this week.

In a Facebook post Friday, they expected April to give birth soon, and they would be "shocked" if she went through the weekend without giving birth.

A GoFundMe page set up for April, giraffe father Oliver and their calf has raised more than $100,000 out of a goal of $50,000.

Over the last month millions of people have watched her via the live cam in her pen at Animal Adventure Park in Harpursville, N.Y., waiting for her to give birth.

To Toys "R" Us, it was something like the Internet version of the Super Bowl.

"The world may be waiting for April the giraffe to have her calf over in America, but our giraffe Orla has beaten her to it!" the British zookeepers crowed on Facebook. Just one week ago, her keepers excitedly declared her birth was imminent.

A Coral Gables Police Spokesperson said the scene was secured by 1:45 p.m and officers are now investigating the incident. Two people were airlifted to a hospital, Coral Gables Fire Department Lt.

So here's the thing about April the Giraffe and her ever-changing due date.

"The neat thing about giraffe labor is that they instinctively hide the labor signs because in the wild, if they were making it very clear they were in labor, every hyena and lion would sit tight and wait for mom to become vulnerable", Patch said.

April is between 15 and 16 months pregnant, Animal Adventure Park officials said. "Our team reached out to the Zoo and we were able to agree on a sponsorship immediately".

Then why is the feed up if we're not sure when the calf is coming? Some April the Giraffe fans have grown tired of watching her 24/7 live stream at Animal Adventure Park in hopes that they might get to witness the miracle of birth in real time. This is the zoo's first giraffe calf.

The park's live stream was interrupted briefly when YouTube pulled the feed after someone reported the images contained explicit material and nudity. And it's almost as many as the 33 million who viewed the Oscars this year. In the meantime, let's just hope that everyone can overcome their April the Giraffe fatigue and also be available when it is finally time to tune in and see the live giraffe birth.

Animal Adventure Park has pledged to donate some of the money it raises from the April the Giraffe sponsorship, along with related merchandise it sells, to further giraffe conservation efforts around the world.
