Lawyer: United will save evidence in dragged passenger case

United Airlines crew members will no longer be able to bump a passenger who is already seated in one of the airline's planes.

The majority of people who watched the video of passenger David Dao being forcibly removed from a United Airlines flight last week - which resulted in a broken nose, a concussion and other injuries - agreed that United acted irresponsibly and downright cruelly (they did).

A spokesperson for the airline confirms that United has updated its policy "to make sure crews traveling on our aircraft are booked at least 60 minutes prior to departure".

In a video posted online, United Airlines passenger David Dao is shown with a bloody face after he was forced off an overbooked flight on Sun., April 9, 2017, by officers at Chicago O'Hare airport.

Attorney Thomas Demetrio said Dr Dao would "probably" sue. Dao was one of those, and when he refused to leave his seat - he cited needing to see patients in the morning - United called security, who violently removed him.

United Airlines has changed its rule on commuting employees boarding flights while not on duty.

Aviation Commissioner Ginger Evans told the committee that the officers had the authority to board the flight but that what happened on the plane is being investigated.

A United Airlines Boeing 787 taxis as a United Airlines Boeing 767 lands at San Francisco International Airport, San Francisco, California, U.S. on February 7, 2015.

United initially stumbled in its response, but has since promised not to take seats from boarded passengers anymore, pledged not to use law enforcement in such situations and offered to refund everyone aboard the plane.

Bumping passengers is permitted by the US Department of Transportation as long as airlines provide some compensation - typically a voucher for future purchase - and a seat on a later flight.

"I hope he becomes a poster child for all of us", he said.

United CEO Oscar Munoz keeps apologizing, but the cell phone videos of Dao's removal - he is 69, by the way - keep playing.

The policy change was announced internally on April 14, the Associated Press reported.

On Thursday, United released another statement reiterating its apology to the afflicted customer and promising "immediate, concrete action" to prevent any similar incidents.
