Trump Helps Release American Aid Worker Jailed In Egypt

Aya Hijazi, an Egyptian-American aid worker, meets with President Donald Trump in the Oval office of the White House in Washington, Friday, April 21, 2017.

The 30-year-old aid worker was held in a Cairo prison for roughly three years on charges of assault, torture and trafficking - claims human rights groups called unfounded - before Mr. Trump personally intervened in Hijazi's release, according to her family.

Ms Hijazi, a United States citizen with dual nationality, and her Egyptian husband, Mohamed Hassanein, set up the Belady Foundation in 2013 to aid street children.

She has dual Egyptian and USA citizenship, and lived in Virginia.

President Donald Trump accomplished something without fanfare Thursday that his predecessor apparently couldn't.

The president and his staff worked with Egyptian President Abdel Fatah al-Sissi to free Hijazi, her husband, and four humanitarian workers.

Her name is Aya Hijazi, and her attorney credits Trump for securing both her freedom and return to the U.S.

'Call of Duty' is Officially Going Back to WWII
Now that Call of Duty: WW2 has officially been announced, gamers are looking forward to pre-ordering the upcoming shooter. One can expect that will change soon, however, the game will be formally disclosed in a Livestream on this month.

Chaperoned by top American officials, Ms Hijazi and Mr Hassanein were reportedly flown back on a military aircraft to Joint Base Andrews, near Washington DC, at 22:00 on Thursday.

Aya Hijazi, 30, was flown home on a US government plane Thursday after she was freed by a Cairo court on April 16.

Trump met with 30-year-old Aya Hijazi at the White House Friday, the day after she arrived back in the United States after almost three years of detention in Egypt. "Thank you very much".

She had been in custody for 33 months in violation of Egyptian law, which states that the maximum period for pretrial detention is 24 months.

Since toppling President Mohamed Morsi of the Muslim Brotherhood in mid-2013, Sisi's government has cracked down on the opposition, killing hundreds of Brotherhood supporters and jailing thousands.

Al-Sisi had been barred from the White House by the Obama administration.

Administration officials told the New York Times that Hijazi's release had been secured before Sisi's visit.
