Turkey's Erdogan says he's set to meet Trump in Washington

Trump called Erdogan Monday to congratulate him on his victory in a contested referendum to expand the powers of Turkey's presidency, although Turkish opposition parties and worldwide monitoring groups have raised concerns about the vote.

Bulent Tezcan, a deputy chairman of the Republican People's Party, or CHP, told reporters the party was asking the Council of State to overturn the electoral board's controversial decision on the unstamped ballot papers. The board ruled against applications to annul the referendum Wednesday.

Speaking in an interview with broadcaster A Haber, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said that challenging the results of the referendum was beyond the remit of each court. "We are not only protecting the votes of those who said "no", but of those who said "yes", too".

Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim responded by saying it was "not the democratic way to go to court, to make complaints to fix the people's decision".

The plan also offers some relief for tenants in buildings built before 1991, who were already covered under rent control. The foreign buyer's tax in British Columbia appears to have helped bring that skyrocketing market under control.

"We went to the people", Yildirim said.

"No court can undo/change the decisions of the nation", he tweeted.

Supporters of the "NO" vote, ( "Hayir" in Turkish) participate in a protest against the referendum outcome, in Istanbul, Friday, April 21, 2017. Opposition parties criticized the electoral board's decision to allow unstamped ballots to be counted.

The "Yes" camp won 51.41 percent in last Sunday's referendum in a tighter-than-expected win, but opponents claim the result would have been reversed in a fair poll. The eroding personality cult of Ataturk suffered its biggest blow yet when Turkey voted April 16 to expand the powers of the presidency, undercutting the parliamentary system that Ataturk imposed almost a century ago.
