Storms tomorrow night, severe weather possible

Strong, and possibly severe thunderstorms are in the forecast for the majority of the afternoon.

The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) in Norman, OK has placed all of Middle Georgia under a slight risk for severe storms.

Storms are expected early Thursday - the sixth anniversary of the April 27, 2011 tornadoes - with damaging straight line winds up to 60 miles per hour possible, according to the National Weather Service in Huntsville. Some strong wind gusts will occur within the storms. "I think there will be a better chance for severe weather to take place in South Mississippi with that one".

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued by the National Weather Service for the following counties: Autauga, Bibb, Chilton, Dallas, Greene, Hale, Jefferson, Marengo, Perry, Shelby, Sumter, and Tuscaloosa counties.

Rain likely by Tuesday night through Thursday with totals in some spots picking up over an inch!

Saturday and Sunday could see moderate to heavy rainfall with temperatures in the mid-50s to low 60s Saturday and rising to the mid-60s the next day, Krein said. All severe weather threats will be on the table including a chance for some localized flooding as two to four inches of rain will be possible. The threat of severe weather increases in parts of southeast Kansas.

Temperatures warm to near 90° again for Friday and Saturday afternoon.

The National Weather Service in Tulsa predicts the severe weather, including wind gusts up to 70 miles per hour and large hail, will move into the area starting about 7 p.m. north of the Interstate 44 corridor. It is possible that another storm targets the region with more severe weather to start the weekend.
