Court documents: Mother had abused teen in kidnapping case

The 50-year-old former teacher accused of abducting a 15-year-old girl in Tennessee has confessed to sexual activity with the teen, his estranged wife claims.

The Associated Press reports that Elizabeth's mother, 48-year-old Kimberly Thomas, is due to appear in court in May to face charges of child abuse and neglect.

Griffin Barry was awarded $10,000 today for calling 911 to tip off police about Tad Cummins and Elizabeth Thomas. His daughter was found safe with her teacher last week at a cabin in a remote part of Northern California.

Authorities arrested Tad Cummins on state charges of aggravated kidnapping and sexual contact with a minor as well as a federal charge of taking a minor across state lines to have sex. He told me he loved me and to please forgive him.

Tad Cummins vanished with Thomas on March 13.

The TBI also plans to give Barry $1,000 in reward money from the TBI's Top 10 Most Wanted List, Tennessee Bureau of Investigation Susan Niland said.

In an exclusive interview with Inside Edition, Jill Cummins said she's spoken with her husband by phone since he was arrested in California last week. A federal judge in California on Monday approved a request to transfer Cummins back to Tennessee, where he will face charges of kidnapping the teenage girl.

"I said, 'Well, did you sleep with her?' And he said, 'Yes I did.' And I didn't want any details, but I knew the truth".

In its accompanying press statements, RSF also said USA president Donald Trump was carrying out a witch hunt against journalists. In the Western Hemisphere the worst abuser of press freedoms is Cuba , and Syria is now the deadliest country for journalists.

Authorities allege Cummins "groomed" Thomas for months prior to abducting her. Cummins was suspended from his job after he was allegedly caught kissing Thomas on school grounds, and he was sacked after he and Thomas went missing.

Barry says that Cummins, who said his name was "John", made an effort to keep Thomas away from him, but Barry did have a couple of brief exchanges with the teen.

"She's had moments of being carefree and fun, but she's very, very fragile, and that's something the family is watching very carefully", he said. "So, in my heart I don't think she would have left Rebecca for a very long time".

Jill Cummins said he would never take her husband back, but doesn't hate him.

But the family immediately realized what had taken place when Cummins' wife called and told them he was also missing.

"We've gone through probably the worst experience of my life so far was having her gone, not knowing where she was or how she was", her father said.
