SpaceX Just Launched A Top-Secret Spy Satellite

According to The Verge, the rocket was given a window from 7:15 a.m. until 9 a.m.to launch.

SpaceX postponed for 24 hours a secretive USA military launch Sunday morning after the company detected a "sensor issue" with the rocket less than a minute before the scheduled liftoff, a spokesman said.

Elon Musk's SpaceX has launched a top-secret spy satellite for the USA government.

The Falcon's first stage booster isn't the only part of the rocket SpaceX intends to preserve post-launch. Monday's launch was the first government-contracted mission for SpaceX.

SpaceX was selected to launch NROL-76 'after a competition, ' said the NRO spokeswoman.

A launch attempt Sunday was foiled at the last minute by a bad sensor.

SpaceX also successfully accomplished one of its defining features by landing the stage-one booster rocket back to earth. The launch was delayed by one day to resolve a problem with a first-stage engine sensor.

Windy, warm & humid with scattered showers/storms this weekend
Showers and thunderstorms are forecast to occur this morning and again late this afternoon and evening. So, if you have any outdoor plans you may have to dodge some showers or possibly a few thunderstorms.

About 10 minutes after launch, the scorched first stage of the rocket came back to Earth and landed upright at Cape Canaveral, marking the fourth successful solid ground landing for SpaceX.

SpaceX now holds two launch contracts with the Air Force. The satellite was launched to enhance the spying capabilities.

SpaceX has been making progress on its mission to make space travel less expensive by recycling rockets. Across the country, cheers erupted at SpaceX Mission Control at company headquarters in Hawthorne, California.

SpaceX has since won two launch contracts from the Air Force to send up Global Positioning System satellites in 2018 and 2019.

The mission was SpaceX's first for the Department of Defense, a customer Musk has been trying to do business with for a while now. The first stage of the vehicle touched down at Landing Zone 1 located just off the coast of the Cape.

High altitude wind shear was also near the limit for Monday's launch, with Musk tweeting it was "98.6% of the theoretical load limit" but "not a showstopper".
