Bulandshahr lynching FIR against 6 Hindu Yuva Vahini members for killing Muslim man 3 held

Last month, members of the HYV barged into a house in Meerut and allegedly roughed up a Muslim man and a woman belonging to another faith after they were found together.

The incident comes on the heels of allegations of high-handedness by UP Police's anti-Romeo squad that was formed to check eve teasing after BJP government came to power in the state.

'We don't want Muslims to convert Hindu girls but we are not involved in any criminal activity, ' he told Reuters. The militia was set up by a Hindu priest who is chief minister of Uttar Pradesh. On April 28, while some of the villagers, including the village chief and few other Hindu families in Sohi, were away looking for the missing couple, a group of men claiming to be from Hindu Yuva Vahini arrived in Sohi.

Tensions began in the area after Yusuf, who is distantly related to Mohammad, eloped with a Hindu girl from another village on April 27 which ignited unrest between the two communities.

Since his appointment, members of the Hindu Yuva Vahini have called on police to enforce a ban imposed by Adityanath on illegal slaughterhouses and taken action to halt sales of meat from unlicensed butchers' shops run by Muslims.

Authorities said they were still searching for the ringleaders of a six-strong Hindu gang that beat Ghulam Mohammad to death. On that day, we heard him saying for the first time that he was a member of the Hindu Yuva Vahini and those accompanying him were members of the group too and had come from neighbouring villages.

Yaseen then filed an FIR against Singh and the six unnamed men for murdering his father, leading to the arrests on May 2.

Police officials however refused to disclose the names of the arrested persons and even contradicted statements from other police personnel. Senior police officer Muniraj G told NDTV, "In the complaint, we have written that the members are of the Hindu Yuva vahini".

However, Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Aditya Mishra appeared to be striking a different note as he said the incident should not be seen from "communal point of view" and "associating any particular organisation with the incident is not right".
