Team Penske later released a statement saying they did not intend to appeal NASCAR's decision. The crew chief suspension can range from one to three races and the points penalty can range from 10 to 40 points.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) - NASCAR has penalized Joey Logano four days after his win at Richmond International Raceway, essentially stripping him of all benefits that came with the Monster Cup Series victory.

It was Logano's only victory of the season, so he will lose his playoff spot as a result, and must re-earn it by winning a race at another track this season. NASCAR has penalized some teams for the practice.

NASCAR determined that Logano's truck trailing arm spacer and the pinion angle shim were not flush, which theoretically would enhance Logano's ability to drive through the corner.

It's the first time NASCAR has "encumbered" a race win since the encumber term was introduced into NASCAR lexicon in 2016.

VA office to focus on accountability
Most of the major veterans organizations have endorsed the effort, according to the House Veterans Affairs Committee. Lucas said the office was a "positive first step" but not enough to fix the culture at the VA.

Thursday NASCAR issued a HUGE L1 Penalty for Sunday's victor of the Toyota Owners 400 at Richmond International Speedway.

"Like I said, I drive the auto", Logano said. What that means, in plain terms, is that the Team Penske driver can not use the win toward an automatic playoff spot, and the five playoff points for a victory would not apply to his tally. And as we've said many times, NASCAR reality has a sharp tendency to be more outlandish than fiction.

"We are disappointed by the notice, however, we do not plan to appeal the penalty".

"Honestly, I don't believe that we wear a black hat or anything like that", Logano said about the team. "I think we're the most professional organization out here". "We push as hard as we can because we're looking for hundredths of a second". "We're going to have to push as hard as we can to be successful, and sometimes you go over that line".

Brad Keselowski, Logano's teammate, was penalized after his No. 2 vehicle failed postrace inspection following a fifth-place finish March 19 race at Phoenix International Raceway. "When you're a little bit over, we're sitting talking about what we are today". "We'll have Miles our race engineer, which is involved with every step of the way every single week with Todd every weekend, so that will be a great fit".
