Slumped and mumbling, 93-year-old Mugabe denies Zimbabwe is 'fragile'

Mr Mugabe said, during a panel discussion on fragile states at the World Economic Forum on Africa in South Africa's costal city of Durban.

"You can not even talk about us as a "fragile state" from an economic point of view". "Zimbabwe is one of the most highly developed countries in Africa and, after South Africa, I want to know which country has that level of development that we see in Zimbabwe", said Mugabe.

Donald Kaberuka, former President of the African Development Bank Group, said: "Today we are talking about fragility in Africa. You can also call America fragile". "Mugabe is living in the real Zimbabwe that most of us are living in or perhaps, he is living in his own world", he wondered.

"We have over 14 universities and our literacy rate is over 90 [%] - is the highest in Africa".

In Byanyima's parting shot to Mugabe, she said: "Let us give others a chance, it is important that we have elections that are free and fair - that reflect the will of the people, that is at the heart of governance".

Showtime to Air Stone Interviews With Vladimir Putin
Putin has granted a small number of interviews to Americans in recent years - including to CBS' Charlie Rose and CNN's Fareed Zakaria.

In 2016, Zimbabwe was the 16th most fragile state in the Fragile States Index out of 178 states surveyed.

"We are now a basket case, thanks to decades of Zanu PF misrule, rampant corruption and unprecedented dereliction of governmental responsibility", Gutu went on.

Chairperson of the Zimbabwe Community in South Africa, Ngqabutho Nicholas Mabhena, said his organisation supported the anti-Mugabe protests.

The presence of President Mugabe does not in any way benefit the country in these worldwide forums. "Please help and die for this, ' what would we have said?" asked exasperated Zimbabwean filmmaker Tsitsi Dangarembga. I think that is completely wrong because there are elements of fragility everywhere."When we talking about fragility we think about countries, in fact, the spinover effects of fragility in one area can outgrow consequences".
