Watch Elon Musk's SpaceX launch a bus-size satellite

Weather is near ideal for a launch from Kennedy Space Center this evening, with a 90-percent chance of favorable conditions.

On Monday, SpaceX launched a Falcon 9 to deploy a 13,500 pound satellite, the heaviest load that this type of rocket has ever carried. SpaceX CEO, Elon Musk explained the reasoning behind recovering the booster rockets in previous missions, pointing out that one of the company's goals is to make launches cheaper by reusing booster rockets.

The newly built 229-foot-tall (70-meter) SpaceX Falcon 9 successfully delivered the huge 6100 kg Inmarsat-5 F4 satellite to a Geostationary Transfer Orbit (GTO).

Inmarsat started out as an global maritime satellite service provider, but the London-based company has branched out into fields ranging from in-flight Wi-Fi to connected cars.

The London-based mobile satellite communications company that owns the satellite on board tweeted a few pictures on Sunday of the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket.

Blixt-Smith team grabs win on 4th playoff hole
Blixt tried to respond for Smith to the question of where the win would take the Golf Australia rookie squad member. The two teams could not be separated before Sweden's Blixt and Australian Smith birdied the fourth play-off hole.

The telecommunications satellite in question is Inmarsat-5 F4.

"Satellite deployment success!" Inmarsat announced.

The successful launch was broadcast live over the internet on Monday. "In maritime, our system is actually integrated". Both of these factors combined mean that the Falcon 9 will need to use a whole lot of propellant during launch to get the satellite where it needs to go.

The launch was actually suppose to take place with a Falcon Heavy. Inmarsat has an option for another future flight with SpaceX.

SpaceX operates a launch pad at Vandenberg Air Force Base, California, and two pads in Florida.

Three Dragon cargo flights are planned this year, along with the Heavy's maiden launch.
