Central African Republic violence 'highly worrying,' UN says

United Nations forces retook strategic areas of a city in the Central African Republic on Monday after an attack by Christian rebels during the weekend, which killed almost 30 Muslim civilians and a Moroccan peacekeeper at a nearby U.N. base. We are assisting people who have sheltered in the hospital, and the Catholic mission is helping those who are in the church, but those who are now in the mosque are completely cut off.

The members of the Security Council condemned in the strongest terms the violence by anti-Balaka elements in Bangassou (Mbomou) which intensified on 13 and 14 May 2017, and targeted a Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) field office, civilian populations from particular communities, as well as humanitarian personnel.

Cardinal Dieudonne Nzapalainga of Bangui led negotiations with the Christian rebels to stop the violence.

The UN agency said that DR Congo, which is also rife with violence, as of end March was hosting 103,000 Central African refugees.

According to the local leader of the Red Cross, Pastor Antoine Mbao Bogo, the fighting has continued the point where the Red Cross and other aid organisations are unable to go in to help the wounded and retrieve the dead.

The last to do so on the famed island green was Willy Wilcox in the second round of last year's event. During the first round of THE PLAYERS Championship, Garcia teed up his shot and let it rip.

Reiterating support to the Central African authorities and to MINUSCA in implementing its mandate to protect civilian populations, France said it is "determined to continue, in consultation with its European, African and worldwide partners, its efforts for the stabilization and consolidation of peace in the Central African Republic".

Thousands have died as a result of the conflict and over a million people have been internally displaced as a result of the conflict in what was already the world's third poorest country.

The latest in a series of attacks was an incident this weekend in Bangassou, in which armed men used heavy weapons to attack the base of the United Nations mission in vehicle, known by its French acronym MINUSCA.

A disarmament programme put in place by the government has failed to halt the rising violence.

Among Africa's poorest countries, the vehicle descended into bloodshed pitting the anti-Balaka fighters against the mainly Muslim ex-Seleka rebels. The country has been plagued by inter-religious violence since 2013.
