ANC denies party talks to oust Zuma

Factionalism has divided the ANC ahead of its conference at the end of this year, where Mr Zuma is expected to step down as leader of the party.

The rand was relatively stable at much stronger levels on Wednesday morning‚ taking its lead from speculation that embattled President Jacob Zuma may not be able to serve out his full term in office, writes Andries Mahlangu.

Ahead of the meeting, Cosatu General Secretary Bheki Ntshalintshali denied Dlamini might be sacked.

Meanwhile, central to yesterday's media briefing regarding resolutions taken by Cosatu was the barring of Zuma from addressing Cosatu members from its events.

Ntshalintshali said the committee did not discuss Dlamini's attendance at Zuma's birthday celebration.

It also comes after a Cosatu May Day rally in Bloemfontein was called off after Zuma - who was the keynote speaker - was booed.

Texas set to pass transgender bathroom law for schools
The rulings have raised the potential of Texas becoming the first state dragged back under federal oversight since the U.S. Greg Abbott , a proponent of transgender bathroom restrictions, has indicated he'll sign the measure into law.

Cosatu's second deputy president, Zingiswa Losi, said the federation was not to blame for Zuma's hostile reception at the May Day rally; it had advised the ANC that affiliates did not want the president there.

The ANC yesterday re- sponded to news of Zuma's barring and said it had not received any formal communication.

"This will be communicated to the ANC, including engaging on its implications for our alliance", Ntshalintshali told reporters in Joburg after a special executive committee meeting. Their spokesperson, Alex Mashilo, said although the federation has not officially informed them on their decision, the SACP respected them for their independence.

"We are not going to invite the president of the ANC to come and address the central committee".

The federation also appeared to blame Zuma's lack of leadership on the decision by General Motors (GM) to disinvest from South Africa.
