India gets a boost as ICJ stays Jadhav's execution

Meanwhile, Pakistan said that International Court of Justice had no jurisdiction to hear case of Kulbushan Jadhav as it pertained to the security of Pakistan.

Talking to a news channel, he said Pakistan would form a new team of lawyers to present Pakistan's stance vigorously in the case.

The Pakistan government has come under attack from the opposition for "mishandling" the case of alleged Indian spy Kulbhushan Jadhav, whose execution has been halted by the ICJ. The court today instructed Pakistan to take all "necessary measures at its disposal" to ensure that Jadhav was not executed pending a final decision by it.

Although final decision is yet remote in future, victory at the initial stage meant much for Pakistan to reach at the roots of terrorism on its soil land which has so far, taken the life of over 60,000 Pakistanis including civilians and security personnel.

With just a day to go for the expiry of a 40-day deadline to challenge the death sentence given to Kulbhushan Jadhav, Indian officials said on Friday they do not know if Pakistani military authorities are even considering an appeal submitted by the former Indian navy officer's mother.

Cheery outlook for minority government will soon fade
The one potential wild card was Courtenay-Comox, which the NDP won by just nine votes in the initial May 9 count. There have been four judicial recounts since 1995, including one in each of the past three elections.

India has denied Jadhav was a spy, and accused Pakistan of "egregious violations of the Vienna convention" by denying him access to legal counsel and consular visits, and refusing to reveal the charge sheet against him. He said the ICJ decision was an outcome of the Sharif-Jindal talks.

The ruling triggered criticism of the Pakistan Foreign Office (FO) for its "poor handling" and also for its choice of UK-based Khawar Qureshi, who represented Pakistan's case before the ICJ.

The court yesterday pronounced its verdict on India's plea seeking provisional measures restraining the execution of Jadhav by Pakistan. The verdict a matter of great relief for people of the country, he said. However, Pakistan's Agent, the country's Ambassador to the UAE Moazzam Ahmad Khan ridiculed the suggestion that Mr. Jadhav's execution was imminent.

Geo News stressed that the fact that Pakistan was not well prepared enough to face the proceedings resulted in verdict going India's way. tA host of experts and analysts told the channel that Islamabad shouldn't have conceded the compulsory jurisdiction of ICJ and instead should have gone with its own judgment.
