Spanish GP on NBCSN, NBC Sports app from 7am ET

Their race-long battle included Vettel jumping Hamilton at the start and the two making slight contact at Turn 1 after Vettel exited the pits alongside the Mercedes driver.

The two drivers talked about the incident in the post-race news conference, which happened as Vettel emerged from the pits after his final stop alongside Hamilton's Mercedes.

The Dutchman was on the outside when Kimi Raikkonen and Valtteri Bottas collided heading into Turn 1, with the Ferrari driver bouncing off the Mercedes and into Verstappen's Red Bull vehicle, eliminating both with suspension damage.

Despite a great start in individual duels with Mercedes, Ferrari's top driver finished Sunday's Spanish Grand Prix exactly where he started: in second place behind Lewis Hamilton.

Unfortunately for the Ferrari man, Hamilton made the most of a tire advantage to get ahead on lap 44 and maintain the lead to the end of the race.

Moments after Bottas saw his hopes of adding to a maiden win in the previous round go up in smoke, Hamilton closed in on Vettel on his faster tires and never looked back after going by on lap 43.

Hamilton's victory is special because for the past 10 years, there were 10 different winners and the jinx has been broken as he was the Champion in Spanish GP last year as well.

"Shame for the end result, but we leave Spain knowing that we can count on a auto that is solid and very quick", Arrivabene said.

"I don't remember having a race like this for a long time where I was able to be on the limit as hard as I was and stay in a battle".

Tearful Kvitova puts trauma of knife attack behind her
Kvitova moves into the second round to face the victor of the match between Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Evgeniya Rodina . Top of the list, and still ranked No2, was three-time victor Serena Williams, now expecting her first child.

"I didn't want him to win today; I wanted to win", he said. I don't know if we touched, but I managed to stay ahead.

"I'm here to race".

A year ago in Spain, the Mercedes drivers collided at the start - leaving Hamilton 43 points adrift of Rosberg.

"At the same point you have respect if other people do a good job and he drove a good race to come back at the end and pass us on the track so I have nothing to moan about".

The two went side by side as Vettel came out of the pits for the last time, the German holding off the Briton with a bit of strong-arm tactics.

Championship leader Vettel bemoaned the eight seconds he lost to Hamilton in the second stops but felt the Scuderia could not have done any more.

Lewis Hamilton has said he that he sensed Sebastian Vettel was "angry" with his P2 finish and is unsure whether their rivalry will remain respectful throughout the season.

"I tried to brake as late as possible into Turn One, locked up". He finished the race less than four second behind Hamilton, and Red Bull driver Daniel Ricciardo was nowhere close finishing a distant third. Max Verstappen, who won the race past year, retired after a first-lap clash with Kimi Räikkönen.

"I think we have a great common passion - we love racing", Vettel said.
