Rajinikanth will only float his own party: TNCC chief

Intense speculation has ruled the grapevine for the past couple of days about the Tamil superstar's entry into politics after Rajinikanth, in an interaction with fans, said that he is a "Pachchai Thamizhan" and asked them to be prepared for "war".

Thamizhar Munnetra Padai announced that it would stage a protest demonstration in front of Rajinikanth's residence at Poes Garden in Chennai allegedly against actor's indication for a political plunge.

Known for its galaxy of actor-turned-politicians, Tamil Nadu seems to be getting ready to welcome more star power. The actor called for cleaning up the political system and exhorted fans to "prepare for a battle" if necessary. It does nothing for them.

A senior BJP state leader has even said that if the actor joins the party, "it will be strengthened".

Chennai: Kollywood Stylemannan Rajinikanth's political entry has been hit by a massive controversy even before it could take off.

Earlier in the day, the Tamilar Munnetra Padai, a pro-Tamil group staged a protest against Rajinikanth's possible entry into politics earlier today, stating that he was a Kannadiga. BJP trying to woo Rajinikanth to make inroads in Tamil Nadu? "It is better he should stick to movies and entertain people", Swamy said.

"I am 67 years old". I have a profession, work, duty and so do you. "Although I came as a Marathi from Karnataka, you people nurtured me, made me a true Tamilian", he said. He had also added that he is "a pure Tamil" and that he has been in Tamil Nadu for more than 40 years. "I'm sure he would do lots of good things".

In the ensuing political developments, he backed the DMK-TMC (Tamil Maanila Congress, led by the late G K Moopanar) combine, which also cashed in on the severe anti-incumbency sentiments against the ruling AIADMK. "However, if he does join, which I will absolutely look forward to, I would like to tell him that BJP has an appropriate position for him", Mr Gadkari told a television news channel.
