Su-Wei Hsieh of Chinese Taipei rallied from a first-set loss to shock seventh-seeded Johanna Konta of Great Britain with a 1-6, 7-6 (2), 6-4 win on Tuesday to advance to round two of the French Open at Roland Garros.

Konta was making her third appearance in the Roland Garros main draw, she never won a match and will have to wait another year to try to do it.

A 38 error of the match brought an end to the match - and Konta's clay-court season for another year.

Hsieh broke three times to nab the breaker 7-2 before battling through the third set in 48 minutes, eventually sealing match point on her second attempt after saving four break points. "But then there were times where I felt that she did play incredibly well".

"It's not really easy to play the seed in the first round: They play all the big tournaments, they are very positive, their mental is very tough, their body is big and strong", Hsieh said. "In that sense, whether I've lost in the first round or..."

And, after the contest, the Australian-born ace paid tribute to Hsieh while confessing that she was looking to go deep in the Paris event. In the tie-break from down 2-0, the Taiwan player won seven points in a row to take it to a decider.

- Italian Open champion Svitolina, who reached the quarter-finals of the French Open in 2015, will face Bulgarian Tsvetana Pironkova in the second round.

Hsieh, who won the doubles at Roland Garros in 2014, has recently moved to Paris after meeting her boyfriend in the French capital past year.

Former champion Stan Wawrinka progressed to the second round with a 6-2, 7-6 (8-6), 6-3 victory over Slovakias Jozef Kovalik. "I would have liked to have done better with my frustration".
