Twitter users, blocked by President Trump, cry censorship

But some of the questions of our modern age really are unique.

"Each of them was blocked soon after having disagreed with or ridiculed you", the letter reads. What say does the platform have over the content shared on it when that content comes from official sources?

That's the gist of a letter [PDF] the Knight Foundation sent to the White House this week. Since I started doing this, I've accumulated a very vocal group of Twitter followers who cheer me on when I reply to the president. Twitter Inc said it had no comment.

"This Twitter account operates as a "designated public forum" for First Amendment purposes, and accordingly the viewpoint-based blocking of our clients is unconstitutional", the letter said.

That may seem like an unusual legal stance to take. I think it's destructive in two ways: first, he tends to be insulting on Twitter and insulting people doesn't buy you support - it may not lose you your core supporters, but it's eroding a lot of support from people who voted for you. and I also think he's distracting.

In response, Papp tweeted a screenshot of his blocking with the message "a @POTUS so mentally weak & intolerant of dissent he blocks USA citizens critical of his politics from even reading his latest pronouncements".

"But just because you are protesting doesn't mean a government official has to listen", he said.

The scholars argue that as Trump chooses to use his Twitter account to such effect, it is a "designated public forum" which must be subject to the First Amendment, which guarantees freedoms concerning religion, expression, assembly, and the right to petition. But is he actually allowed to use them?

China vows to work with EU to uphold Paris pact
Trump dismissed the scientific consensus that rising temperatures are caused primarily by fossil fuels like coal and oil. The White House did not confirm the reports , while Trump restated that his decision would be announced this week.

Trump tweets from two different accounts. Trump disbanded the traditional "war room" setting with top aides and advisors in favor his own personal use of his Twitter account. The administration could plausibly argue that the President's social media usage is performed as a private person.

Tuesday's poll on Trump also looked at the importance voters were assigning to the investigation into Russia's possible interference in the presidential election, with the split similarly based on voters' political parties.

Cluttering up the president's Twitter page with rants by paranoid, hysterical liberals should lead to the perpetrators being blocked.

In the poll, 69 percent of registered voters said Trump tweets too much, up 13 points from a similar survey in December.

Press secretary Sean Spicer said just today that Trump's tweets are considered "official statements by the president of the United States".

More than half of respondents, meanwhile, said they believe Trump's tweets hurt national security - 51 percent; the United States' standing in the world - 53 percent; and his presidency - 57 percent. And now, his Twitter feed might once again see him dragged to court, this time over his penchant for blocking people who criticize him.

Thats key, because if thats the case and the government has created a public forum, “it may not constitutionally exclude individuals on the basis of viewpoint.”. It was signed by the Knight Institute's founding director Jameel Jaffer and senior Knight Institute attorneys Katie Fallow and Alex Abdo.
