Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Egypt and others severed diplomatic and economic ties with Qatar nearly two weeks ago, accusing Doha of supporting extremist groups.

To show you Trump knew of these concerns, he doubled down on the move to isolate Qatar.

The official listed reasons behind the breakup were media and intelligence reports alongside growing public opinion that Qatar was failing in its counterterrorism duties while continuing as an active source of funding for terrorist operations in the Arab world, most specifically the Muslim Brotherhood in Sisi-controlled Egypt and in regards to the ongoing Syrian Civil War.

Al-Jahnawi told Behind the Event programme on Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT) that Tunisia supports Turkey's "influential role" in the region, especially in resolving the "unprecedented" crisis between the Gulf neighbours. He added that students were affected by the blockade, with foreigners called back from Qatar by their home countries and Qataris ordered out of universities in some Arab states.

And as the stand-off deepens with some African countries including Senegal siding with Saudi Arabia and severing ties with Qatar, the Gambia has opted to remain neutral. The sale also occurs against the backdrop of a dispute between Doha and its Gulf neighbors concerning Qatar's direct support for terrorism.

Though Trump has ranted against Qatar, there is some truth in the belief in Qatar that America is too deeply involved to abandon the tiny nation.

Mevlut Cavusoglu announced the visit after speaking with the foreign ministers of Kuwait, Qatar and Tunisia. Like so many USA officials who have worked on Middle East policy in the last two decades, I'm deeply familiar with the frustrating Qatari duality. He was the senior national security correspondent for the Daily Beast and covered national security and intelligence for the Washington Times, the New York Sun and UPI. Qatar has repeatedly denied the accusations and called the Saudi-led action an "illegal siege". Earlier this week, he met with the Emirati and Saudi foreign ministers in Washington.

Erdogan said he had made the same offer to Saudi Arabia's King Salman Abdelaziz. Three of those states come from the Gulf Cooperation Council, one of the most powerful councils in the Middle East.
