White House Considering New Role for Spicer, Bringing in New Spokesperson

Sean Spicer's Press Briefings May Be Coming to an End. Here's How You'll Remember Them.

Sean Spicer's Press Briefings May Be Coming to an End. Here's How You'll Remember Them.

White House Correspondent Jim Acosta went off on the Trump administration for withholding information from the American people by blacking out the White House daily briefing.

White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer didn't take questions from Politico or The Washington Post during the briefing, an unusual decision that was also flagged by reporters.

On air, Acosta told anchor Brooke Baldwin that the White House was "stonewalling" the news media. Spicer has become a household name for his combative press briefings, but they have become less frequent recently.

Comey told lawmakers that he hoped the tapes did exist since he was confident they would corroborate his memo.

"If he can't come out and answer the questions, and they're just not going to do this on camera or audio, why are we even having these briefings or these gaggles in the first place?" "It just doesn't make any sense to me", he added.

Oil slips as data points to fast-growing supply
But those efforts have been blunted by a massive boom in production by US shale operators, who have become much more efficient. Benchmark Brent crude settled 43 cents higher at $48.72 a barrel while US light crude settled up 38 cents to $46.46 a barrel.

Deputy press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, who regularly fills in when Spicer's unavailable, reportedly said she isn't interested in being press secretary.

White House press secretary Sean Spicer is leading a search for his own replacement at the briefing room podium as part of a larger plan to shake up the White House communications operations, according to two people with knowledge of the effort.

"Maybe I'm old-fashioned, but I think that the White House for the United States of America should have these questions answered on camera so we can see what they're saying", he said.

"This isn't how we do things in this country but for whatever reason we're all going along with it. That is the only conclusion one can draw, that when they give us answers, it somehow reads better in print".
