Severe Weather Chances Increased Today and Tomorrow

Storms this morning have stayed below severe limits after sunrise for a lightning and heavy rain threat otherwise by this afternoon large hail, damaging winds, and even a tornado or two are all possible. We're tracking the potential for some storms, especially near the Kansas/Nebraska state line into the evening through overnight hours.

The Storm Prediction Center has upgraded much of Northwest Arkansas to an "Enhanced" risk of severe storms, and brought parts of the River Valley up to the "Slight" risk. for Friday and Friday night.

The rest of the morning will be dry with storms expected to form along this boundary (around Hwy 30 in western Iowa) by 2-3 PM.

The National Weather Service said the area should see a round of storms Wednesday morning into the early afternoon, and another round during the late afternoon into the evening, with the severe threat during the later round. The cold front will weaken slightly, while perhaps lifting northward late in the afternoon/early evening as a central Plains low-level jet strengthens to around 40-50 kt.Iowa, Wisconsin, and northern IL.

The odds rise to 15 percent Friday, when higher temperatures create more energy for storms to tap into.

Thursday should be partly sunny, with a high near 79 and west winds at 5 to 10 miles per hour.

The best news from all of this is rain, rain is likely from these storms. Highs will be in the mid-upper 80s and slightly more humid on Sunday.
