Venus Williams 'at fault' in Florida auto crash that killed senior citizen

A 78-year-old man has died two weeks after an accident that reportedly involved Venus Williams.

The driver's 78-year-old husband, identified as Jerome Barson, was a passenger in the vehicle at the time of the accident and sustained head trauma.

Williams said that heavy traffic had left her auto jutting out into the traffic.

Mrs Barson did not have time to stop, she claimed, and crashed into Williams' vehicle. Cops reportedly do not believe that Venus was under the influence when the crash occurred or that she was distracted by technology while driving. "The police report said: "[Venus] is at fault for violating the right of way of [the other driver]", TMZ added.

The victim, Jerome Barson, was transported to the hospital, suffering from head trauma.

According to TMZ, the driver claimed she had no time to stop.

Williams has been contacted for comment. Rogers declined to say whether Williams had been found at fault.

In September 2009 she was cited for driving with no proof of her insurance.

The 37-year-old is expected to play in Wimbledon next week.

The former world number one tennis player was at the wheel of her four-wheel-drive vehicle in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida when the accident took place.

Williams has a residence in Palm Beach Gardens, where she also often trains.

Her license was suspended on May 8, 2013, for failure to pay fines.
