As has been the case for quite some time, Psy's Gangnam Style has held the title for the most-viewed video uploaded to YouTube.

It's been five years, but a new video has finally taken over Psy's "Gangnam Style" in terms of viewership with Wiz Khalifa's "See You Again" earning 2.8 billion views.

Psy's Gangnam Style is no more the video with the highest views on YouTube.

The movie, and video, are seen as tributes to Walker, who died in a vehicle accident before completing "Furious 7", the latest in "The Fast and the Furious" film series.

Gangnam Style was the first video to reach one billion views on YouTube, forcing the video hosting service to upgrade its counter limits. Both tracks have had years to accumulate views, but they could see competition from No. 5 on the most-watched list. Most striking was its place on top despite the dominance of English-language music on global charts.

"See You Again" was a smash record as well.

"I joined YouTube in 2007 hoping to make a video that would reach 10,000 views", said Puth on Twitter.

Furious 7 opened to record-breaking profits US$532.5 (A$697) million, trumping Star Wars: The Force Awakens' US$529 (A$692) million. "Sorry" by Justin Bieber (2.63 billion) and Mark Ronson featuring Bruno Mars' "Uptown Funk" (2.55 billion) are third and forth, respectively.
