Fresh Kid Ice Cause of Death: How Did the 2 Live Crew Rapper Die?

Fresh Kid Ice, born Christopher Wong Won, was a co-founder of the controversial, but undeniably influential hip hop group 2 Live Crew.

According to the group's manager (via TMZ), Fresh Kid Ice passed away just before 8 a.m. early Thursday morning (Jul. 13) at a Miami hospital due to an undisclosed medical condition.

"People we lost a legend", Campbell tweeted.

Rick Ross, Juicy J and Luther Campbell have since posted touching messages to Chris.

The Supreme Court ruled in favour with 2 Live Crew in 1992 but the case led to parental advisory labels on album covers.

A native of the island of Port of Spain, Trinidad, Fresh Kid Ice grew up in Brooklyn, New York.

The hip-hop crew's most successful album, "As Nasty As They Wanna Be", was the first album considered to be legally obscene because of its sexually explicit content a year after its release in 1989. The group was best known for their distinct sounds that came through the monster cuts "Banned in the USA" and "Me So Horny". He went on to form his own label. Other people could be like, 'Damn, that could be me.

Fresh Kid previously addressed how being one of the first Asian rappers impacted his fans. "I didn't know an Asian dude was rapping like that!'"

Fresh Kid Ice was the only 2 Live Crew member who appeared on all albums. In 2004, he released Freaky Chinese, which notably featured several appearances from a pre-fame Flo Rida. The incidents impaired his speech and movement, but he eventually taught himself how to walk and talk again.
