The briefing was jointly held by Home Minister Rajnath Singh, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Defence Minister Arun Jaitley and was attended by leaders of 19 political parties.

Opposition leaders were on Friday briefed by the government on the stand-off with China and the situation in Jammu and Kashmir.

Former defence minister Mulayam Singh Yadav, who represented the Samajwadi Party at the meeting, said the government needs to be careful about dealing with China.

China's Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said India and Pakistan are important South Asian countries but the "situation in Kashmir has attracted the attention of the worldwide community".

History says the seeds of the India-Bhutan friendship were sown in 1958 when then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru visited Bhutan that shares a 605-km long border with India and 470-km with China.

Pakistan accuses India of violating ceasefire after two civilians killed in J&K
India countered Pakistan's allegations that India violated the ceasefire along the LoC in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir . Two people, including a girl, were killed and three citizens were injured, the statement added.

Today, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson rejected the Chinese offer and said India's position on addressing all issues, including Kashmir with Pakistan, in a bilateral framework, had not changed. "So, the matter is that cross-border terrorism in our region emanating from a particular force is threatening the peace and stability in not only India but other neighbours and also the entire region and the world", Baglay said in his weekly media briefing.

All parties at the meeting condemned the July 10 terror attack on the Amarnath pilgrims in Jammu and Kashmir that left seven people dead and at least 20 injured. In 1975, after Sikkim was annexed by India, that border became the boundary between China and India.

Jaishankar's presentation traced the genesis of the dispute, with the Opposition being informed about how Chinese troops entered Indian territory in May and June, and destroyed an old post, said sources.

On whether National Security Advisor Ajit Doval was travelling to Bejing on July 26, he said that there was no information with him at the moment. Sharma said that Congress made its view clear that national security was the priority and advised the government to rise above politics and tackle the situation diplomatically.

Several leaders said the government couldn't come up with a credible reason to explain security lapses that led to the attack. They also wanted the Centre to seek stern action against the militants by taking the confidence of the people Kashmir. "Everybody promised to support government", said Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan. While the opposition leaders supported India's stand, CPM leader Sitaram Yechury asked the government to "introspect" whether its policies on the Dalai Lama and military exercises with the USA and Japan had contributed to the tensions.
