3,800 firefighters remain on the scene of the Detwiler Fire, which is the biggest of 17 significant wildfires now burning around the state.

The fire came within a half-mile of Mariposa on Wednesday, said Cal Fire spokeswoman Shanelle Saunders. A CAL FIRE spokesperson said that by Thursday the fuel shortage had been resolved. Perimeter maps showed it was very close to doing so. On Friday night, the fire was 25% contained. Broadcast news agencies reported the firefighter was airlifted to a hospital. A surging wildfire raced through California mountains and foothills west of Yosemite National Park on Wednesday, forcing thousands to flee tiny, Gold Rush-era towns.

Isolano also said Highway 140 between Mariposa and Yosemite has been reopened. Its cause remains under investigation. Jerry Brown declared an emergency for the county.

Evacuation orders for the town of Mariposa were lifted today at 11 a.m. but residents are urged to be cautious as there will still be smoke in the respective areas as firefighters continue firefighting.

More than 3,800 total fire personnel assigned to the Detwiler Fire, including 68 fire crews, 478 engine crews, 87 bulldozers and 61 water tank trucks.

That window is quickly closing, however, as temperatures are expected to climb from 93 Friday to 100 by Sunday.

After expanded by more than 22,000 acres overnight, the fire's progress slowed on Thursday, taking only 500 acres during the day, Cal Fire said.

Yosemite National Park remained open.

Yosemite does not appear at risk from the fire, which was moving south, away from the park.

Despite the conditions, Yosemite has not seen a noticeable decline in visitors.

"I'm comfortable that most that can be done for us is being done", he said.
