For unruly behaviour, six Congress MPs suspended for five Lok Sabha sittings

The Lok Sabha witnessed uproar during the zero hour today when the Opposition members surged into the well and demanded the Prime Minister's presence to discuss the incidents of lynching in the name of cow protection.

In the morning, leaders from the Congress, the Trinamool Congress, Left parties, the Nationalist Congress Party, the Rashtriya Janata Dal and the Janata Dal (United) shouted slogans against the Narendra Modi government over the suspension of the MPs, who threw torn paper near the Chair while were demanding a discussion on lynching of Dalits and Muslims.

Those who joined the protest included Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Ghulam Nabi Azad and Mallikarjun Kharge, JD (U)'s Sharad Yadav, CPI's D Raja, NCP's Supriya Sule and TMC leaders, including Kalyan Banerjee and Derek O'Brien.

As Opposition members protested loudly, Ms. Mahajan said she would like too see "how much indiscipline was possible".

The opposition Congress MPs disrupted the Lok Sabha for almost an hour during zero hour.

The Congress Party said that Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan should have given the six party MPs a chance to explain their stand before she suspended them.

In his long political career spanning close to five decades, Mukherjee remained a member of the Rajya Sabha for four times and was elected twice to Lok Sabha.
