"Our alert armed forces are capable of checking intrusion at the borders, but to prevent the country from economic slavery, people have to check the entry of Chinese goods into Indian markets", he said.

"The confrontation between the rival soldiers took place on the north bank of the Pangong Tso (Tso means lake) in eastern Ladakh, two-thirds of which is controlled by China as it extends from Tibet to India, early on Tuesday morning", Times of India reported.

The Chinese soldiers then resorted to hurling stones at Indian soldiers which was retaliated, leaving some soldiers on both sides with minor injuries. But on both the occasions their attempts were thwarted by alert Indian troops, they said. It said that India's desire to narrow trade deficit with China is "understandable" but trade remedy measures should not be used as shortcuts as it would "backfire".

New Delhi said it sent its troops because Chinese military activity in Doklam, near the trijunction of the borders of India, China and Bhutan, was a threat to the security of its own northeast region. The part held by China is contiguous to Tibet.
