The Islamic State group on Saturday claimed responsibility for deadly attacks in Spain and stabbings in Russian Federation, in statements carried by the jihadists' propaganda agency.

The terrifying rampage happened at 11.20am local time (two hours ahead of the UK). As per a report in Reuters, the Islamic State has claimed the responsibility for the attack.

The police have "neutralized" the attacker, added the committee, in a press release.

According to the committee, the attacker was killed by security forces, who had immediately arrived at the scene.

Regional officials said seven people were taken to hospital, with the figure confirmed by investigators, who lowered an earlier toll of eight wounded.

The armed man has been identified and authorities are now trying to find out his motive for the attack. The attacker was killed. Two are reportedly in serious condition.

"The attacker responsible for the stabbing incident in Surgut in Russian Federation is a fighter of the Islamic State", the group said through the AMAQ news agency.

Surgut, about 2,100km (1,300 miles) east of Moscow in the Khanty-Mansiysk area of Siberia, has a population of more than 350,000.
