August 20 (ANI): On the occasion of former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi's 75th birth anniversary, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday recalled his contributions to the nation.

In Amethi, which Rajiv represented in the Lok Sabha, people from different walks of life and Congress activists paid homage to the former prime minister.

Senior leaders including former Union Minister Charan Das Mahant, former Ministers Md Akbar and Amitesh Shukla, former Member of Parliaments P.R. Khunte and Karuna Shukla, Raipur Mayor Pramod Dubey were among the key leaders who attended the function.

Former President Pranab Mukherjee and former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit paid respects to him at his memorial Veer Bhoomi in New Delhi.

The former Prime Minister was assassinated in a suicide bombing attack near Madras, in Tamil Nadu on May 21, 1991.
