Kiwi singer-songwriter Lorde will go head-to-head with Ed Sheeran, Bruno Mars and The Weeknd for the MTV Video Music Awards' artist of the year award.

And not just any dancing, a very Lorde-esque interpretive dance routine that ended with her collapsing onto the ground.

Veteran VMA's performer Pink smashed it on the night with a rousing medley of some of her best hits, but Lorde's performance had everyone questioning what was going on with the star.

Unlike the rest of the evening's performers, Lorde, 20, chose to forego singing altogether, not even lip syncing along with her song "Homemade Dynamite".

Lorde switched things up at the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards tonight (Sunday, August 27).

Eddie Howe was gutted by Bournemouth's last-gasp defeat to Manchester City but saw plenty of positives from his side. In between them, and after an uncomfortable opening 20 minutes, Otamendi eventually settled alongside Kompany .

She may have been unable to sing for her performance due to a cold, but Lorde looked incredible in a strapless lavendar feather embellished gown from Filipino fashion designer Monique Lhuillier.

The "Green Light" singer - who was nominated for two VMAs this year - followed up her comment about her red carpet style with another tweet explaining that looks can be deceiving, and though she looked as glam and glowing as ever at the show, she was actually really sick.

"You can't tell in these photos but I have the flu so bad I needed an IV", she tweeted following her red carpet appearance.

Pink on the other hand had everyone in awe as she belted our a stream of her iconic songs.
