British Prime Minister Theresa May has threatened to impose more sanctions on North Korea and asked China do more to stop North Korea's nuclear missile launches.

The US and Japan also plan to call for an worldwide ban on oil exports to North Korea in a United Nations Security Council emergency meeting next Tuesday, Japan's Nikkei Asian Review reported.

Britain "will be working with our worldwide partners, as we have done previously, but we will be re-doubling our efforts with our global partners to put pressure on North Korea to stop these illegal activities", the prime minister said.

"We're never out of diplomatic solutions", he said, pointing to collaboration between USA and Seoul and saying the allies are "never complacent" when it comes to protecting their citizens.
