Redskins change Su'a Cravens' mind about retiring for now

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Redskins S Su'a Cravens told some within the organization on Saturday that he was going to retire, but he has changed his mind "for now". Though he's now battling a knee injury, Cravens is expected to be the team's starting strong safety - not just for this year, but in the years to come. He was one of the youngest players in the National Football League as a rookie last season.

Should Cravens decide to walk away from football, he would not be the first to retire at a young age - but he might be the youngest NFL player to do so.

According to Mike Jones of the Washington Post, Cravens was not in attendance at Redskins practice on Sunday morning as the team gears up for the start of the regular season in exactly one week. "He's got to handle what he needs to handle, whether it's mental, whether it's family". Before Sunday, fans had been told that Cravens would be ready to go, playing alongside D.J. Swearinger at safety. Players were left to address the stunning news that Cravens had considered retirement. "We're here to support him", Swearinger said. "Whatever he's dealing with I'm praying for him". "If you really love it you'll stick to it".

Cambodia Daily to close in media crackdown
Legal threats forced Kem Sokha's predecessor, Sam Rainsy, to resign this year from the Cambodia National Rescue Party he once led. State Department expressed "grave concern" at Sokha's arrest on charges it said appeared to be politically motivated.

"Everybody has their own stresses in life and things like that", linebacker Will Compton said. "People have lives outside of football, and sometimes you have to handle that first". ESPN reported that Cravens informed a handful of teammates the prior day that he meant to notify the team of his retirement. He then had to undergo knee surgery back in August. Per the Post, Cravens' teammates felt he was losing his "zeal for the game" after a concussion last October that he said affected his vision.

As Gruden mentioned, Hall remains a valuable mentor for the defensive backs group, in particular guiding seventh-round draft pick and cornerback Joshua Holsey, who made a strong impression throughout camp and preseason to make the team as the backup nickel corner.
