THAAD launchers set for deployment amid protests

Australians in Asia warned about North Korea

Hundreds of residents of South Korea's North Gyeongsang Province took to the streets to protest against the deployment of four additional US Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) missile systems in the province, but the protests evolved into clashes with police, local media reported Wednesday.

They have raised worries over rumored health hazards linked to the system's powerful radar and the possibility that the town will become a target of North Korean attacks.

The ministry noted that six launchers will give the US a full THAAD battery, meaning it will have a much better chance of detecting and shooting down missiles from the North.

THAAD will not help resolve security concerns. Components of the Thaad battery arrived at the US military's Osan Air Base on March 7, 2017 and a radar system and two launchers were installed on a former golf course in Seongju on April 26 - less than two weeks before the May 9 presidential election that brought Moon Jae-in to power.

The readout was released shortly before Trump was to speak with Chinese President Xi Jinping, whose opinion is critical for getting the U.N.to apply tighter sanctions on North Korea, including possibly restricting China's oil sales to its unpredictable neighbor. Washington rejects the proposal; Putin insisted it "offers a genuine way to defuse the tensions and a step-by-step settlement".

Speaking at a press conference Princess Mako said that what attracted her to Komuro was "his bright smiles like the sun ". Over time, she said she learned he is 'a honest , strong-minded, hard worker, and he has a big heart, ' Mako said.

A number of countries have firmly condemned North Korea's test calling for retaliation.

"There is no change in the government's position to make the final decision on whether the THAAD system will be deployed (in South Korea) after carrying out the general environmental impact assessment of the entire site thoroughly and fairly", the ministry said.

"It is clear that it is impossible to solve the problems of the Korean peninsula by sanctions and pressure alone", Putin said at the economic forum in Vladivostok, following talks with South Korean President Moon Jae-In. The North says it detonated a hydrogen bomb in its sixth nuclear test on Sunday.

Ahead of the meeting with Mr Putin, he said the situation could get out of hand if North Korea's missile and nuclear tests are not stopped.
