Martina Hingis of Switzerland and Yung Jan Chan of Taiwan hold the championship trophy

Martina Hingis (L) of Switzerland talks to Jamie Murray of Great Britain during the mixed doubles final match against Hao-Ching Chan of Chinese Taipei and Michael Venus of New Zealand at the 2017 US Open in NY, the United States, Sept. 9, 2017.

Hingis, who will also compete in Sunday's women's doubles final alongside Chan Yung-jan, now has 24 Grand Slam titles across singles and doubles.

Martina Hingis, of Switzerland, left, returns a shot as doubles partner Chan Yung-Jan, of Taiwan, looks on during the doubles semifinals of the U.S. Open tennis tournament against Sania Mirza, of India, and Peng Shuai, of China, Friday, Sept. 8, 2017, in NY.

She said: "If I play, then definitely we will (play together)".

In the 21 years since scooping her first major title in the 1996 Wimbledon doubles, Hingis has won five Grand Slam singles titles, seven in mixed doubles and now 13 in doubles. They will do the same now, though if Hingis decides to keep playing after turning 37 at the end of this month, it sounds as if it will be with Murray.

The Scot said: "This scoring format is a lot more random than at Wimbledon".

At the 2014 Wimbledon Championships, Chan for the first time reached the finals of the mixed doubles competition with Max Mirnyi to reach her first ever Grand Slam final.

Murray, the older brother of two-time Wimbledon champion Andy, won his third Grand Slam mixed doubles title.

After the match, Murray reiterated his concerns about prize money for this format of the game. I think doubles is a huge part of tennis.

"He texted me and said well done", he told reporters. I think this is really the key: we've been there, we've won titles and we know how it's done.
