Confirming the reports, Army Northern Command in Udhampur told Hindustan Times that the two militants were killed in an encounter with police, Army and the Central Reserve Police Force in Khudwani, while one person was arrested.

While searches were intensified towards suspected spot insurgents hiding fire upon the Goverment forces triggering a encounter.

The slain militants were identified as Dawood Illahi and Sayar Wani, both residents of Kulgam and affiliated with Hizbul. The spokesman said one AK 47 rifle, 2 AK 47 magazines, 63 AK 47 rounds, one INSAS rifle, one INSAS magazine, 60 INSAS rounds, one pistol, one pistol magazine, 2 pistol rounds and 2 pouches were recovered from the site of encounter.

Acting on a tip off, a joint team of J&K Police, 1RR and 18 battalion of CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in Khudwani and asked the militants to surrender.
