Disney World, Universal to reopen Tuesday after Irma sweeps through Florida

Universal Studios-near Disney World-also reopened Tuesday, the park stated.

Several Orlando-area theme parks reopened Tuesday after Hurricane Irma ravaged the state, forcing all of them to close for days.

This isn't the first time the resort's theme parks have closed since the first park, Magic Kingdom, opened in 1971, but the parks have always been up and running again within 24 hours. Some areas suffered damage like downed trees and signs, but the theme parks are operating on normal hours, according to the Disney World site, and things appear OK overall thanks to speedy cleanup efforts.

On Thursday, September 7, the park tweeted: "In anticipation of inclement weather, Night of Joy has been cancelled on September 9 and Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party has been cancelled on September 10". The water parks will remain closed until later this week, according to a statement.

Universal was closed down ahead of Irma.

On Monday, Sept. 11, 2017, the only select restaurants at Disney Resort hotels are open for Disney Resort Guests.

Monday's closures include Universal Studios, Typhoon Lagoon, Animal Kingdom, Magic Kingdom Park, Fort Wilderness, Blizzard Beach, Hollywood Studios, Disney Springs, Epcot and ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. SeaWorld and Aquatica are planning to open on Wednesday. Stay tuned for updates on Discovery Cove.
