Google to launch 'Tez' mobile wallet in India

To accelerate adoption, Google is offering Tez Scratch Cards within the app, using which you can earn up to Rs 1,000 for eligible transactions.

Android Pay may be enough for some people but those in India deserve something more special.

Unlike digital wallets, there is no need to top up your balance. "Make all payments big or small, directly from your bank account with Tez, Google's new digital payment app for India", says Google. As expected, Tez makes use of India's UPI (Unified Payments Interface) for carrying out the operations. This is the Government's service to integrate banks to such applications.

Venturing into the online payment sector, Google has launched "Tez" which is based on UPI-payments and has gone live on the Google Play Store ahead of the official launch.

Tez will not be an e-wallet like PayTM.

Also, since Tez uses UPI, it works with all major banks including HDFC, Axis Bank, State Bank of India, and ICICI. With direct transfers from and to the customers' bank accounts the app will not require to go through an extra step of topping up wallet balance. Other networks such as Dominos, RedBus, JetAirways. It is powered by UPI and aims to offer safe and fast payments mode to Indian consumers.

The Tez app supports eight languages, including English, Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Marathi, Tamil, and Telugu. Transactions must be INR 50 or more per user. Soon, the app will dominate the entire Asian countries.

Compatible with most smartphones be it an Android phone or an Apple device running on iOS.

Another very interesting feature that Google has embedded into this app is "Tez Cash Mode". Users just have to link their bank account to Tez and it's done. This multilingual feature of the app is the main attraction for many Indians.

This is all you have to do, you are on the home screen of this app. This will allow you to send money using Account number, UPI ID, phone number, or QR code. After that, you add a UPI pin, and your bank is added in Tez for any transactions. If you've already set up your account, the payment process is simple, and similar to Paytm transactions. There, choose the bank name and your account will be automatically detected with the help of phone number.
