Manafort was under surveillance by FBI before and after election: report

On top of all we know already about Manafort's shadowy overseas political consulting operation, CNN reported Monday that Manafort was under Federal Bureau of Investigation surveillance dating back to 2014, well before he joined the Trump campaign. Reportedly attorneys for both Trump and Manafort put a halt to any further communications between the two earlier this year.

A number of Donald Trump supporters are deliriously claiming the President has finally been vindicated over his claims Barack Obama "wiretapped" Trump Tower during the 2016 election campaign.

Manafort 68, is a longtime GOP operative who has previous working experience with former Presidents Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush, he stepped down as the Trump campaign's chairman in August 2016 amid overwhelming speculation surrounding his ties to Ukrainian politics.

Warrants issued by the court established by the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act are based on probable cause that a person is an agent of a foreign power.

It is important to note that though judges granted the standard FISA warrant to surveil Manafort, no evidence of a crime necessarily had to be present in order for that to happen. The investigation is also considering whether Manafort was involved in money laundering, violating tax laws, or improperly lobbying, it said. But the FBI obtained a new FISA warrant that extended at least through early 2017 as part of its investigation into possible contacts between Trump officials and Russian operatives.

According to CNN, the Federal Bureau of Investigation became more interested in Manafort during the fall after intercepting communications between the longtime GOP lobbyist and Russian operatives. "It's not known what they found".

As for the CNN report, it came after the US President wrote several tweets in March to blame the former Obama administration for allegedly wiretapping Trump Tower during the election campaign.

Four Florida teams in AP Top 25 poll; Alabama firmly on top
The Horned Frogs beat SMU 56-36. - No. 25 LSU dropped 13 spots, barely holding on to a spot in the rankings. Meanwhile, Clemson has been ranked in the top five for 28 consecutive polls, the longest active streak.

Roger Stone, a former business partner of Manafort's and informal adviser of Trump's, said that the new report overwhelmingly supports Trump's controversial claim.

Details from the wiretapping have been provided to special counsel Robert Mueller, who is leading the investigation into Russia's meddling in the election, CNN reported.

Agents had picked the lock to his Virginia home as Mr Manafort lay in bed, and were looking for evidence that he had set up off-shore bank accounts, the newspaper reported.

After the raid, Mueller's team warned Manafort to expect an indictment, the New York Times reported Monday night.

Mueller's team hasn't stopped there.

Instead of invitations to the prosecutor's office, [Manafort and Flynn associates] have been presented with grand jury subpoenas, forcing them to either testify or take the Fifth Amendment and raise suspicions that they had something to hide. "It centered on work done by a group of Washington consulting firms for Ukraine's former ruling party".
