Following Facebook's own disclosure, Twitter says that it has identified more than 200 accounts on its service that are linked to Russian Federation.

The social media company also revealed that RT, a propaganda news site linked to the Kremlin, spent at least $274,100 in United States ads on Twitter.

Twitter, like Facebook, is being examined for its part in spreading content created or paid for by Russian state-sponsored entities with the desire to influence USA politics.

Executives from Twitter met behind closed doors with congressional investigators Thursday, and revealed that the same Russian operatives who placed at least $150,000 in 2016 presidential election campaign ads on Facebook were also using 201 accounts of Twitter, according to The Washington Post.

"I am more than a bit surprised, in light of all the public interest in this subject over the last few weeks, that anyone from the Twitter team would think that the presentation they made to the Senate staff today even began to answer the kind of questions that we'd asked", Sen.

As for Spurs, Harry Kane will return to the starting eleven, after being rested in the 1-0 Carabao Cup win over Barnsley. Tottenham , meanwhile, seek victory in their opening three away league fixtures for the first time since 1991.

Twitter has shut down hundreds of accounts that were tied to the same Russian operatives who posted thousands of political ads to Facebook during the 2016 U.S. election. In that year, the @RT_com, @RT_America, and @ActualidadRT accounts promoted 1,823 Tweets that definitely or potentially targeted the USA market. The company shared with committee staff a round-up of ads that were targeted to the USA market in 2016 by three Russia Today (RT) accounts. "Twitter deeply respects the integrity of the election process, a cornerstone of all democracies, and will continue to strengthen our platform against bots and other forms of manipulation that violate our Terms of Service".

"Due to the nature of these inquiries, we may not always be able to publicly share what we discuss with investigators", said the company in its blog post. Unlike Facebook, Twitter allows both anonymous accounts and automated accounts, or bots, making it far more hard to police the service.

It also found another 179 related accounts and blocked those after determining they broke the site's rules.

The news follows similar disclosures from Facebook.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg also said the company will work to make political advertising on its platform more transparent. Mark Warner said the information Twitter shared "was frankly inadequate on nearly every level". Moscow denies any such activity, and Trump has denied any collusion.
