LEGO Ideas 21312 Women of NASA unveiled [News]

The finalized set, revealed Wednesday, features 231 pieces, including minifigures depicting astronomer Nancy Grace Roman, computer scientist Margaret Hamilton, astronaut/physicist Sally Ride and astronaut/engineer Mae Jemison, all of whom made huge contributions to NASA and the advancement of space exploration. Today, LEGO is developing more gender-neutral sets and finding new ways to encourage girls to become a STEM superstar.

In its announcement, Lego said that the four figures include the "mother of the Hubble Telescope", Nancy Grace Roman; Apollo 11 programmer Margaret Hamilton; the first American woman in space, Sally Ride; and the first woman of colour in space, Mae Jemison.

Each set will include Lego versions of the women pioneers accompanied by a build that speaks to their careers. Perhaps this is just the first wave of a series of women in science that Lego will be celebrating, and Johnson may be added to a future set - but, we'll have to wait and see. My dream would be to know that the first human on Mars — or an engineer or computer scientist who helped her get there — played with the LEGO Women of NASA as a child and was inspired to pursue a STEM career as a result.”.

Asia Cup: India beat Pakistan 3-1, top Pool A
India defeated traditional rivals Pakistan 3-1 in the Asia Cup 2017 at Maulana Bhashani National Hockey Stadium in Dhaka . The second quarter started well for the Indians as they produced some slick passing to take the lead in the 17th minute.

When NASA originally announced that Weinstock's "Women of NASA", people on social media praised the idea.

In addition to the figurines, each set comes with a desktop display frame, a Hubble space telescope, and a mini space shuttle.

Katherine Johnson, a mathematician who worked for NASA from 1953 to 1986 and was the lead inspiration for the the book and movie "Hidden Figures", will not be featured in the "Women of NASA" set. She submitted the idea to the Lego's Ideas Community last summer. It also comes with miniature vignettes depicting moments in NASA history that these unbelievable women made possible. Once approved, LEGO designers Tara Wike and Gemma Anderson set to work creating final iterations.
