BJP irks critics for demanding cuts in Tamil movie 'Mersal'

Mersal has cost over Rs 100 crore to its producers Sri Thenandal Films

Mersal has cost over Rs 100 crore to its producers Sri Thenandal Films

"Don't try to demon-etise Tamil pride by interfering in Mersal", Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi tweeted in English and Tamil. The scene continues to get thunderous applause in theatres but alas the producers have chose to chop it off to steer clear of the controversy. "He has assured me the offending scenes on GST and Digital India will be removed from the film". Vadivelu tells them that "These days nobody has money in their hand, it is all digital money and everyone is waiting in the queue". The BJP state unit also objected to a comic in the movie mocking queues caused by demonetisation. After several political parties and the film fraternity in Tamil Nadu lashing out at the ruling party at the centre for trying to silence critics, BJP leader Shatrughan Sinha also trained guns at the party over the matter. They demanded removal of scenes mocking GST.

Summary: "None had demanded a ban on films criticising the policies of the governments".

Inside Mersal, there are, some dialogues about GST comparing it with Singapore that has less GST and doing more health benefits to people. He added that BJP had created an unnecessary row over a movie.

Family left toddler in corn maze, didn't realize until next morning
Employees told police they found the boy by himself and that no one had come forward to claim him by the time the maze closed. The boy was visiting the maze in West Jordan on Monday, Oct. 9, with a large family group, but was left behind.

"Commenting on movie "Mersal" is natural for the BJP because they never accept the criticism". The film released worldwide on October 18.

Parasakthi, the debut film of Tamil film icon Sivaji Ganesan had released in 1952 and Chidambaram's reference to it vis-à-vis the controversy over Mersal is perhaps because the movie's dialogues, written by DMK chief M Karunanidhi who was then a budding leader in the party and a screen writer, espoused reformist and egalitarian ideals. By collecting Rs 31 crore on the opening day, "Mersal" has scored way above "Kabali", which had pulled in Rs 23.3 crore previous year.
