Mumbai batsman Shreyas Iyer and Hyderabad pacer Mohammed Siraj received maiden T20I call-ups as the BCCI Selection Committee headed by MSK Prasad on Monday announced India squad for the three-match T20I series against New Zealand at home. Prasad quelled speculation that Kohli - who has been playing continously since the IPL across all formats - had asked to be rested for the Lanka Test series.

Ashish Nehra has been picked for the first match which will be played in Delhi's Ferozshah Kotla on November 1. Ishant Sharma has been added to Test squad after missing out on the Sri Lanka tour. "Shreyas has been prolific in all forms of the game, be it days cricket, ODIs, T20s, IPL, he is performing". Kedar Jadhav has made way for Shreyas who has performed impressively for India "A" as well in domestic matches.

22-year-old Iyer was in fine form in the recently concluded series between New Zealand A and India A where he scored 317 runs in the four matches including a highest score of 108.

Chief selector MSK Prasad said on Sunday that there "is no assurance from our side that he's going to play or not".

Meanwhile, the spin duo of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja made a comeback to the longest format as the selectors also recalled opener Murali Vijay to the squad, announced for the first two Tests against Sri Lanka. "Siraj is also doing well and has been duly rewarded", commented Prasad according to Sportstarlive. He said, "We can't say that [if he will surely play in the Delhi T20I], whether he is going to play or not, it is clearly the team management and the selector on call, whoever it is".
