And, that's not the only risky contaminate found.

You can find a complete list of the products the Clean Label Project tested and graded on its website here. It's great if the study spurs a conversation about chemicals in our food supply, but there's no reason to stop buying baby food or formula entirely. The same study determined 80 percent of baby formula contains the deadly poison as well. Their study concluded that all the chemicals pose serious threats to developing infants.

Jennifer Lowry, pediatrician and toxicologist at Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Mo., who is not affiliated with the research, said these chemicals can affect fine motor skills and cognition.

Gerber, Organix and Earth's Best were among some of the worst brands, according to the study.

They also found that 60 per cent of products with "BPA free" labels in fact tested positive for bisphenol A, an industrial chemical which is used to make plastic. That's far more than just trace amounts.

Almost 80 percent of infant formulas tested positive for arsenic, and 60 percent of products claiming to be BPA free tested positive for BPA.

Rice-based baby foods, like snack puffs, had the highest levels of arsenic, according to Jaclyn Bowen, a food safety scientist and the executive director of the Clean Label Project.

MORE | The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has information on arsenic in rice and rice products here.

Arsenic and cadmium are naturally occurring elements found in soil, water and air, so it is not surprising that they are found in food. 36% of those foods tested for lead, 58% for cadmium and 10% for acrylamide.

Every product tested gets a product rating of one, three or five stars. No amount of lead is safe, but it's not regulated.

The other toxic chemicals reported were lead which can cause hearing disability, anemia, behavioral issues, and learning problems.

Some 65 percent of baby food products in the USA - including four out of five baby formulas - contain traces of the toxin arsenic, a new study has found, but officials say there is little they can do to remove substances that could harm developing infants.
