McNair's comment was made during the owners meetings in NY earlier in October when player demonstrations during the national anthem were discussed.

Houston Texans players, stung by team owner Bob McNair's remarks while discussing the NFL's national anthem demonstrations, knelt for "The Star-Spangled Banner" before their game in Seattle on Sunday.

"I was referring to the relationship between the league office and team owners and how they have been making significant strategic decisions affecting our league without adequate input from ownership over the past few years", McNair said.

McNair issued two public apologies via statements distributed by the Texans. "To use an analogy of inmates in a prison, I would say they're disrespectful".

McNair publicly apologized on Friday and Saturday.

The bodies of two Indonesians and a Myanmar national have been found so far, while the fate of the rest looks increasingly bleak. The cause of the landslide is not immediately known, but the island has experienced repeated flash floods in recent months.

Texans left tackle Duane Brown told reporters that he was "sickened" by McNair's words. And that's exactly what they did before Sunday's game against the Seattle Seahawks. He also reportedly apologized during the meeting in which the comment was made.

As the anthem began, Texans players looked around at each other and then the majority knelt in unison.

According to the Houston Chronicle, this is the first time any Texans players has ever kneeled before the national anthem (though one player raised a fist once last season).

In the end, after reported conversations that included ripping off the Texans logo from their helmet, the Houston players - almost all of them - took a knee during the playing of "The Star-Spangled Banner". Several of the players who chose to stand put a hand on a teammate's shoulder.
