"A full and methodical search of the station and Oxford Street was conducted by officers".

British Transport Police (BTP) received reports at 4.37pm of gunfire on the westbound Central Line platform.

State Department now lists Sudan, Syria and Iran as nations that have "repeatedly provided support for acts of global terrorism". Israel's biggest fear, he said, is the possibility that North Korea might develop nuclear weapons on behalf of Iran.

Metropolitan Police said officers responded to the incident as if it was terrorism given the nature of the information received.

Armed police have arrived on the scene to handle the situation after a gunman was reported to be firing shots.

Unconfirmed reports on social media indicated that people were running away from the scene and locking themselves in shops.

"Police have responded as if the incident is terrorist related". Local residents said heavy police presence could be seen.
