The Moon will be 357,973 kilometers from the Earth on this night and it will be slightly larger and brighter than normal, according to Dr Saran Posayachinda, executive director of the NARIT.

The term was coined by an astronomer in 1979, and we've been hearing about it ever since.

A supermoon occurs when a full moon coincides with the point in orbit in which the moon is closest to Earth.

He said the Super Full Moon will be visible in the east of the night sky of December 3 after the sun sets from 6.00pm. You also have the option of seeing the moon live online via Europe's virtual telescope project. It is a full moon which happens with the moon at or near its nearest approach to Earth in a given orbit.

For sky watchers in the United States, the full moon begins at 10:46 a.m. ET on December 3.

In the perimeter the Moon will be 357,492 kilometers away from the Earth, while at the time of the full moon a little more (357,987 km). Just two weeks after it's closest pass on Sunday, the moon will reach 253,000 miles from earth on December 19th.

The moon will appear 7 percent larger and 16 percent brighter than usual. The shortest and most distant from the Earth (406.268 km) full moon of 2017 had occurred on June 9, near its peak.

According to NASA, there will be supermoons in both January and February of 2018. The moon should sit near the constellation Taurus, though it shouldn't be hard to spot.

For the first time in 2017, the moon will be some 30,000 miles closer to Earth than it usually is. Assuming skies are clear, the best view of the supermoon will be as it rises on the northeastern horizon at 5:34 pm Sunday evening.
